Writers Block

I’ve been working on “Intimate Healing” for a while and so far the story has flowed out of me without much trouble. My biggest problem is finding time to write. But now that I’m almost done with it, I have encountered every writer’s biggest enemy; writers block. I figured if I forget about “Intimate Healing” for a while and start on something else, then maybe I’ll be able to overcome this writers block. I started writing a new story that’s been in my head for a few months now. Has anyone out there ever encountered writers block? If so, how do you overcome it?

  1. I get it a few times a year. That's usually my cue to write something totally different--start a new novel, short story, even an article for a magazine. That's why I think it's often a good idea to work on more than one thing at once.

  2. Hi Lia,
I think we writers get writer's block from time to time. I think we get it depending on the circumstances surrounding our lives. I'm fortunate to have a small writers group so we get together once or twice a month to write. This is wonderful because we feed from each other's energy. We usually use writing prompts to warm up. Once we start writing (which is like exercising) we can't stop! I'd recommend you form a small group of serious/committed writers so you can help each other. Hope this helps!

  3. Oh, the dreaded writers's block. I get it often and, as Liz said, that's usually time to start something new. I try to force myself - and it's hard work - to write any old rubbish and hope that, in a few days, I'll be able to convert that rubbish into something readable.
    Good luck!
