Relax

After having a stressful last couple of months, I can honestly say that yesterday was a great day to unwind. I actually got to relax.

I shut off my phone, locked the doors, and dedicated the whole day to doing nothing. Slept in in the morning (although I was still up by nine), read half of a great book, updated my website, and attempted my hand at writing.

The book I was reading was really great. It's published by one of my fellow Evernight authors, although she pubbed this one with a different press. However, girl has talent and I'm loving that book.

Writing was a different matter altogether. I haven't written in so long (took a break from it when my personal life became a soap opera) that I kinda don't know what I'm doing again. Writing is like exercise, if you take a break from it, you loose of the hard work you put into it. Still, I managed to put in 500 crappy words, and I'm sure when I'm editing it, I could add another 500 in detail.

After I finished writing, I stumbled across one of my favorite movies (The Wedding Planner) on tv, and watched that.

I had a day to just relax and unwind, and I loved it! I so needed it!

How about you? When was the last time you took a day off life?

  2. I'm so glad you got a day to relax! Those are so important, but really hard to get. Usually my days of relaxation come when I catch a cold and my body has to tell me to slow things down a bit! I do love to sleep in and spend the day with a good book, my favorite movies!

  3. I covet your day! I agree, occasionally you must decompress--makes you that much more efficient, I think.

  4. Isn't it wonderful to have a day to yourself to do anything you want without anyone looking over your shoulder. It's a way to reload and get going. But why just one day? Take more. :)

  5. I am planning a day off from life, though I really have no idea of when that will be. I do know that I'm definitely getting a massage next week :D.

    The last time I took a day off? I really don't remember . . .

  6. That sounds like a wonderful day. Glad you got to relax and tend to yourself. It's important.

I took such a day when I was sick in July. I guess that really doesn't count. When the observatory shuts down ... perhaps I'll find a day ... maybe.

  7. That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day. I hope you settle back into writing soon, I can imagine it becomes hard to get back into it if you have a long break. Look after yourself.

  8. I plan on a day off in two weeks. It's a forced day of relaxation. LOL. I'm going in for knee surgery that day.

  9. I can't remember when I last took a day off - this Sunday was supposed to be relaxing but I ended up writing 4000 words in a stretch and exhausting myself. Maybe next Sunday I'll sleep in. Or better yet, fix a nice breakfast the night before so that on Sunday morning I only need to warm it up and take it back to bed with me.

You're right about how difficult it can be to get back into the swing of writing when we're out of practice, though. One reason I keep pushing myself to hit the keyboard every day.

  10. Oh, I need a day like that! The last month has been hard, health-wise. I agree with you on the writing, too. When you're away from it for too long, it takes a while to get back in a groove. It's like running.
