Arg, Which Way Do I Go?

Have you ever felt like you are being pulled in every possible direction?

Lately my personal life has been a push pull "who deserves my attention most" competition. I'll tell you all more about that this upcoming Monday as right now I don't want to get into my family drama. Adding to that stress was INTIMATE HEALING, my new finally released novella from Sapphire Blue Publishing.

As the release of the book has been changed more then a baby's diaper, I didn't do much pre-release promo planning. I didn't want to set up guest posts at other blogs and buy cover slots at review sites when the book may not come out when it was set to. I did that once already with this book and then had to cancel everything.

Now the released is guaranteed as the book is OUT! Finally, I don't have to worry about that. But, as the book's release is no longer playing musical chairs and is now sitting by that imaginary store front window waiting to be bought, I have to worry about the promotions a bit late. I've contacted only one author asking for a guest spot, and even that was weeks ago so no date has been set. I only bought one cover slot for my book (at a reduced price because I'm cheap).

The stress of the release fell off me while the stress of promotions is now a new thing to worry about in my life.

So, dear readers and fellow authors. What kind of promo has worked for you?

  1. Yikes, that's quite the comment above there!

Well, I've found have fun events, like online celebrations or parties work the best. Not a big fan of blog tours, but that's just me.

  2. As I haven't done a promo and am still working on novels, I'll share what has gotten my attention:
Blog tours: Maria Zannini's really got my attention and brought me to a whole host of new blogs to follow.
Online contests: Yes, giveaways are great. Maybe try a review showdown where you have 4-5 people review your book or have it to where people come up with a great oneliner or alternate blurb and have people vote on them and give a prize to the vote winner.
I admit I enjoy a good book trailer, particulary with a captivating voice.

  6. Talli ~ Thanks. I remember your big splash when The Hating Game came out. That made you into an overnight bestseller. I should try that next time. :-)

Angela ~ Maria's blog tours are always fun. You learn so much from them. I plan on visiting a few sites with my new book.

Francine, Carrie, and Raquel ~ Welcome and thanks.

  8. Hi, from a fellow Paranormal Romance campaigner! My book was only published last month, and I'm still finding my way with promotion. I've sent my book off to several review sites, but they have HUGE waiting lists. I've joined Goodreads - lots of people have signed up'to-read' it, but whether they eventually do or not - who knows? I really think the best thing is connecting with fellow writers - and then help each other out with promotion!

  9. Congratulations Angelina on your release.

I think pick a few major Romance websites, blogs, like Coffe Time Romance, Manic Readers and advertise. Post on peoples blogs frequently. Undertake interviews, and basically be everywhere where a reader might find you. Set an amount of time to do your promo, and go for it.

But blog tours I don't think work. :)

    My opinion. :)

  10. Hi Angelina, That's wonderful news re the release (and I was amused by the diaper metaphor!) I'm in the Adult-All Genres Campaign group, and with one novel published, I haven't cracked the code on promotion. I did, though, run excerpts every Saturday for a year, and that resulted in several sales.
